Gumtree Scam - Mondeo ST TCDI

Options
Car forsale on Gumtree.

I ran a search through google with the email address, no returns came. Therefore here we are..

The car was a 2006 Mondeo ST TDCI for £2000. A little cheap, but had high mileage.

The reply - from mike.f1885@gmail.com
Hi,

Thank you for your email. This Ford Mondeo ST TDCI is currently located in
Invernes because I just finished the divorce with my wife and I have moved here.
My car is in perfect condition, very well maintained with no issues.

I'm asking £2,000 for a fast sale + £100 for delivery. Due to my job
(working on a oil rig) pick up is not possible but we can use eBay's services.
Using their services you have 3 days to inspect the car before paying me and
I'll be sure that I have a genuine buyer who won't mess me around. You'll get
the chance to inspect the car, test it and everything you like while your money
are safely held in eBay's account. ONLY after you confirm with eBay that you
agree to keep the car, they'll release the money to me. In case you don't like
the car you get a full refund.

Email me back with your delivery address so i can register the
transaction and eBay will send you all the info regarding payment and
delivery.

Regards,

Mike

Frankly, gumtree is such a haven of scam artists, I wouldn't buy anything via that site.
  • They've obviously switched motor's, away from the VW camper van they used to use in this scam.
  • If you reckon you can get an 06 ST TDCi for 2 grand, you're in for disappointment. Surely no one is that naive?

    Hi All,

Thanks for the replies. The post was to get the email address into the google search options, as now if anyone has a reply from the scammer they will see this post under google.

If you can or cannot get a ST TDCI for £2k is not up for discussion here.

    Regards,

    AO
  • Seen similar scams on Autotrader too. A very underpriced Campervan led to an email from someone purporting to be in Portugal, and cash transfers etc etc.

The scammers get their email accounts closed very regularly, they just create a new, throw-away email address - note that the email address has a 4 digit number on the end - they just add one to number and create a new one....

It's against the site rules to post an individual's email address.
