hmmm, it's a bit more complicated ...
if you want to buy a huge spread of companies (so you don't care if 1 goes bust), then you could buy a fund or an investment trust. either of those is a collective investment scheme, which invests in lots of different shares.
you might still want several funds or ITs, because they mostly specialize in specific areas (geographic areas, or sectors, or ...).
there's some good ideas on http://monevator.com/ about how to pick funds/ITs.
then there's who to buy them through, but that should probably be the last question.0 -
Possibly Vanguard Life Strategy have something to suit, they offer a mix of fixed interest and equity funds, I use the 80% fund just now but initially used the 40% fund during the stock market problems.
