Transferring money from UAE to UK Bank Account

Options
My daughter works in Dubai and wants to transfer money from her Emirates NBD to her RBS Account. Is this possible and what will she be charged. She will be converting AED to Sterling. Is there a better way to do this?

A bank transfer in the local currency is likely to cost £15-£20, but RBS is likely to charge about 3% for conversion.
  • She has just started work out there after leaving Uni and like most kids just needs a bit of advice. She has just opened her account and is expecting her first full pay cheque this month. I have sent her links to her Emirates Bank but just wondered if anyone had experience of transferring money to the UK from abroad. Thanks anyway.

I should try and find an Expat forum to ask that question on there. There's loads of Brits working out there on temp contracts, they will know the best transfer routes.

Or she could just ask people on the ground - surely she knows / will get to know some fellow country people? Also, Human Resources departments of employers can often help with information.

If she doesn't need to have the money back in the UK immediately it will almost certainly work out cheaper to let it accumulate in the UAE account then transfer it once or twice a year, as that means charges are paid much less often.
