Hi, many thanks for all the comments. It looks as though membrane plus slate chippings might be the way to go (we do have a lot of cats in the neighbourhood, so bark is probably not a good idea).

I really curse the developers leaving this totally useless strip, it's just awful, seems to collect rubbish, as another poster said, and because it borders the path/road people seem to think it's fine to dump their fag butts on it. I'm hoping if we can smarten it up a bit, it will deter people from doing this.

    Thanks again!

Nope, sorry, that ain't going to happen:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:and the more you explain your issues, the more suitable a sweepable hard surface becomes.
IE either thin concrete or a continuation of brick pavers as exists.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Has this strip been left on purpose, maybe for drainage? If so, the concrete/pavers option could cause problems.

    Just a thought.

I agree with the membrane and chippings comments. Maybe you could put a tree/plant/shrub at either end so you can't see down the path.

That's fine until you "get" the problem the OP actually has, and that's that it collects rubbish. Hard surface really does seem the best way.
