**Newbie alert**
If you customise your share options on Facebook to ensure you are only sharing with yourself will your entry still count.
Probably in most cases they wouldn't even know, but I have entered a couple L&S comp posts that have actually stated you need to share on friends walls not just your own to be in wih a chance of winningTwitter is little better, my friends have threatened to unfollow as there fed up with all my re-tweets
Twitter is ok for me because I only made my twitter account to do competitions and I don't know anyone else who uses it so all my retweets only get seen by a couple of random followers.0 -
I don't mind them (although I didn't know that l&s is against F/B rules) I do have a few friends who like me to post them so they can have a go.
I only do a few though, as some of the prizes don't interest me, but I don't like them to announce the winner without doing a direct mail first. There have been instances of people claiming prizes by posing as the person who won  so I think they ought to make it so if the company do a comp, they must email the winner directly first. I don't mind having my name mentioned, it's just there are a few thieving toe-rags out there and I'd rather they make sure that the person who wins is the one they send the prize to.
I will say that the "Winners Circle" page on Facebook is really handy, some of us would never had known about a prize if it wasn't for a few kind hearted people letting others know they've won something.BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

I've seen them too where they tell you to put it on "public" setting. One company said ages ago that they could see who had shared it with everybody and only those entries counted.
I don't know how they know if you have done it how they ask. It would be interesting to find out if they actually can tell though.BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

Yeah that would be interesting to know.0 -
Underneath the image, there's "X people liked this", then "X shares". If you click the "X shares" it shows everyone who has shared the image, but you'll only be able to see if they've shared it publicly or you are friends with the one who shared it. So, the company pages can only see public shares from people, because they cannot add friends.0

If they ask you to like, share & comment I've been asking where the app is to make the draw in line with facebook rules,
my BFF does loads of likes & shares & I don't know how she keeps track of them all to go back & check if she has wonproud gran to 4 lovely boys and one little girl0 -
Unless you share publicly I don't think the Company can see your share, just sharing with friends wouldn't include them.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

Like and share accounts for less than 10% of my FB winnings but as it's running them that breaks FB rules not entering them I continue to enter them as they are so quick and easy to do.
It is also not as simple as like and share = bad and apps = good
Like and share breaks FB rules (Apps generally do not)
Like and share winners are often not notified directly which can lead to attempts to steal the prize but use of an app does not mean there will certainly be direct notification.
With like and share you can see who and how many entries there are, not so with apps.
Use of like and share or apps makes no difference to the randomness of winner selection but like and share winners are often notified publicly and can be (and often are) subjected to close examination to see if they are a "real" winner (not the case with apps).0 -
A number of things put me off doing L&S comps on Facebook.
1. I hate the thought of spamming my friends' news feeds and also it being obvious to them all that I am entering loads of comps.
2. It is against FB rules, they are meant to run apps / sweepstakes.
3. They often don't message the winner, I read of a few cases on here recently when people missed out on prizes because they didn't catch the post that named them as winner
4. I think they're very easy to be "fixed" (remember that Irish jewellery store one the other month, and I've noticed a few similar ones where the winner has JUST happened to be very local to the business offering the prize!)
I could rant on and on but basically I just prefer to stay away from anything on FB that doesn't run an app for its comp.0 -

L&S is no easier to "fix" than an app but it's easier to get away with the "fix" on an app.0
