Solar slates
Options
Having a slate roof that has leaks we are wondering whether to go down the route offered by the thread title company? Apart from the benefits or otherwise of solar panels now that there is no feed-in tariff (so I believesfter May last year) does anyone have knowledge about the route of combining slates with solar power? The cost for us is unknown at this moment but may well be 38k to £10,000. Would that be a good deal or not - I have no idea to be honest.
Thanks in advance. hawker955

Much as I would like to see the end of the feed in tariff its still alive and well, 16p per Kwh exported AFAIK.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Solar slates are available, and look quite good.
However, they are murderously expensive and more expensive to install than conventional panels.
In most cases, for all but the most unusual properties, you can't sanely cover the whole roof in solar slates.
It will be a portion of the roof only.0 -
There is still an FIT available for new installs, it's just not as generous as it was.
Domestic FITS are available only up to installed capacities of 4kWhp, which is usually 16 x 250W panels, so little point in going above that.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

This isn't really the case.
Installs get a little more complex to approve over 4K.
The payment goes down modestly (10%), but if you can get approval, a 9kW array may have the same payback as a 4, and clearly the total income is higher.0
