Bad D&A!

Thanks everyone for your comments so far.
My main point isn't that the prescription is wrong, we will allow for tweaks etc. Its that they were adamant that we would have to pay £90 for 3 months lenses plus the £54 so far for 2 eye tests, just to get the prescription.
As far as we can now tell (thanks to Noctu and the GOC), they must pass on the prescription as soon as it is finalised, not after 3 months.
The service being shoddy was secondary to the financial side.
I had just paid out £265 for 2 new pairs of glasses, my GF had paid £54 for tests, yet they still wanted another £90 for lenses (which I can get for £10 month online), and tried to charge another £27 for the follow up test for her lenses (which they had already said would be free).
We only went because she wasn't happy with Specsavers, but we will be going back soon.
We will keep you updated.

I'm having issues with D & A myself at the minute. Due to a medical issue I had my eyes tested with Boots back in January at the time the optician advised that although my left eye had changed slightly it wasn't enough to warrant new glasses. As I wasn't looking to buy new glasses as the time just needed to know my eyes were ok I got my pescription fine.
Anyway about 4 weeks ago I've still had concerns so booked in with D&A just to double check my eyes were ok, anyway the Optician did a thorough exam and said both eyes had changed so I went for new glasses. I ordered two pairs one standard and one sunnies, It took two weeks for my standard glasses to arrive and when I went it to collect they weren't fitted, the woman just said 'they look nice come back if you have any problems', within minutes of getting home and wearing them they were loose and falling down my nose constantly so I couldn't wear them.
I went back in to have them adjusted and now I can actually wear them I find that my vision in them is blurry everywhere but the very centre, I'm not chuffed so I phoned up to complain about their service and to mention the fact that after comparing their pescription to Boots there is a significant difference. Now I'm having to go for a re-check next week.
Does anyone know where I stand should I choose to request a refund ? I still haven't got my sunglasses yet and no doubt when they do eventually arrive they'll be wrong too. Would I have valid reasons to cancel my glasses and request a refund if they have given me the wrong pescription and subsequently supplied glasses that I can't wear and will need changing?

Are your glasses varifocals? I understand that can mean sides are not focused.0 -
I had a bad experience trying to trial contact lenses at Boots a couple of years ago. I've now switched to a little local private optician - the service and care are ACE!
So nice to feel you're not on the conveyor belt OK so no "free" eye test but what a difference in attitude and service.0 -
Offtopic D&A question, but would really help me out if anybody can answer!!
Got an eye test with them tomorrow(booked an eye + contact lense test) & i have a free test coupon to take. However i have a feeling this may only be able to be used for one of the tests, & seeing as i already know what kind of contacts suit me(but them online!!), then do i need the contact test as they could make me pay for this and i really just need my updated pescription. Also, will they try and lock me into making a purchase, and can i get my percription no problem from them when i dont buy anything???
Thanks so much0 -

I think it will probably only be valid for the eye test. I had a separate coupon for the free contact lens assessment which involved signing up for the contact lens by post scheme (though you could always go home afterwards and phone CLBP to cancel).& seeing as i already know what kind of contacts suit me(but them online!!), then do i need the contact test as they could make me pay for this and i really just need my updated pescription.
Will your current contact lens supplier accept you changing your CL prescription without seeing a new signed CL one from D&A? I thought this was why we had to go to so much trouble in the first place - because the online sellers aren't allowed to just sell you what you want without an optician's signature? You should probably check with whoever sells them to you. Also, my CL prescription isn't quite the same as my glasses one so are you sure yours will be?Also, will they try and lock me into making a purchase, and can i get my percription no problem from them when i dont buy anything???
Yes they'll try, but we are good MSE'ers and we don't let ourselves be bullied! Just keep saying that you want to go away and think about styles etc, and please could they give you a copy of your prescription in the meantime (and legally they HAVE to do this).0 -
Hi,
So i went to D&A today with my free eye test voucher and turns out that in Scotland you do get free eye tests(when i said i had a free voucher she said you dont need that and she doesnt have any of my CC details)....bummer as i travelled beyond 3 opticians just as i had this free voucher!
I now have a small problem, i had carried out my eye test with them, but they didnt give me my perscription. Can i call them up tomorrow and ask for my perscription and all the details as i want to buy glasses online! Had a look at the sites to buy glasses and they want so many details(spere, cylindar etc)...can they give me this all over the phone, also they said today that i have an + 0.5 asignatim in my left eye....what does this mean, can they give me the details of this to????
Also 2 sub questions, first one is i still have to have a contact test as they said your perscription for this might be different that for my glasses. Can i go to a different optiocians for this(a closer to home one) as either way ill be paying for this(plan to buy my contacts on the net as i have been in the past). However D&A have my address details and glasses percription now, i actually have a contact test booked with them for a few days....what should i do?????
& finally a little challenge fore you, whats the cheapest site to buy these glasses????? police v29590 -
Hiya pbright,
As regards your glasses prescription, D&A are bound by law to provide you a copy if you ask for it. They could get arsey and refuse to provide it over the phone though. But either way, you are entitled to it. Give them a call, there's not too many details to write down, usually 3 figures for each eye (Sph, Cyl, Axis) - the cyl bit is the astigmatism, but +0.5 is very low, don't worry about that. The prescription you get will include all this information which you need to buy glasses online.
You can go to any opticians to get a contact lens test, I'm not sure of the procedure but it might be helpful to take a copy of your glasses prescription along for it. From D&A's reputation, I wouldn't bother going for a contact lens test with them!
Cheapest site to buy glasses? I've used https://www.budgetspex.com with good service and no problems, got my rimless glasses for about £40 when specsavers wanted £200ish. (wearing them now in fact!)
Martin has an article on all the cost cutting for glasses, see here: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1134472921,56555,
Hope that helped!!0 -
Too right they got ratty,
....So yesterday they tried to sell me a pair and i said id have a look later. So i just phoned there asking for my perscription, and she said "were you not in yesterday", & i said yes, then she sighed(she could probably tell why i wanted my perscritption). So instead im going into tomorrow for my contact lense tryout with them(they said i have to pay as i told them i buy lenses over the net much to their disgust!!) and ill get a copy of my perscription then...they better give it to me with all the details i tell thee.
