Anyone got a Flymo compact 350?
I have recently bought a new Flymo lawnmower and dont seem to be having much luck with it!
Has anyone else got one that can confirm whether or not I am doing something wrong or whether it is in fact broken!
There is a little yellow ball that 'pops up' on the lid when the grass box is full - except mine 'pops up' as soon as I switch it on.
In the trouble shooter section of the flimsy manual it says that the grass may be too long - it was only cut a week ago!
The lid doesnt shut very firmly - it doesnt sort of 'click' in to place but I'm not sure if it is meant to. I though this could be a problem. It also sounds like a Boeng 747 taking off!
I am pretty sure that the grass box is in correctly - I cant find any other way to put it in other than the way it is in already (there is a hole that I assume the grass is MEANT to come up - mine just goes all over the lawn as it wont pick up as it thinks the box is full!)
The instructions are very brief.
My main problem is that I have taken all of the packaging to the tip - I assume if it is faulty I could turn up at Argos with it as it is?
WHY OH WHY did I not stick with Black & Decker - my poor old faithful gave up the ghost after 12 good years and cut alot tidier than this piece of rubbish I seem to have bought!
Can anyhone help me - sorry for ranting on!

I brought the exact same one from Argos last week and the yellow ball does come up when you switch it on but that settles down after a couple of seconds. Haven't had any problems with the grass cuttings not going into the box. I too have thrown the box away but I'm sure Argos will refund or replace as long as you have the reciept.I hate migraines.0

The yellow ball stays up all the time on mine - it never goes down and then the box collects hardly anything it spews the grass all over the place.
Are you able to confirm that the box is in the right way - if you were standing at the back of the mower as if you were mowing (IYSWIM) would the gap in the grass box be in the bottom right hand corner?
Also, (sorry about this!) does the lid just rest on the top or does yours 'click' in to place?
Would hate to take it back and be told I've not used it properly.
BTW - my little girl loves watching you on playhouse Disney!0 -
hi i bought this last year from argos only realised this year that the front wheels/rollers were missing  i got replacements from flymo after complaining its much easier to do my grass now
the box lid doesnt click into place it just rest on top, the cuttings are supposed to go up thru the hole on the back right hand side,i find it blows most of the cutting about than collect them, my yellow ball always used to be at top but now it never pops up i just keep stopping and checking the fullness.0 -
Thanks Squiggle. Mine does collect some of the cuttings but like you say - it blows most of it elsewhere (maybe this is one of the issues with a hover?)
I will persevere for a little while but really wished I hadnt bought this model.
Not sure that I'd recommend it to others.0 -

We bought one of these the other week and it does exactly the same thing! Ball stays up, minimal grass in the collection basket and it blows most of it all over the place. Not getting a hover mower again, i tell thee!553780080 -

Had one, terrible lawnmower, blew the grass everywhere, i e mailed them and this was reply
'Further to you enquiry
We were sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with the grass collecting
ability of your Flymo hover lawnmower.
When starting the machine, it should be tipped slightly to allow the air to
circulate under the deck, giving it lift. Not doing this could make the
machine heavy during use.
Your lawnmower is designed to vacuum clippings from the lawn through the
aperture is the base of the grass box. A percentage of the finer clippings
are recycled and fed back to the lawn. For best collection, we would
recommend you push your machine forward in a straight line not backwards
and forwards or from side to side.
Should you feel you have justifiable grounds for either a replacement
machine or reimbursement of the purchase price, we would respectfully point
out this request should be made within a reasonable period of time under
the purchase date. At the time of purchase a legal, binding contract was
entered into between you and your retailer and we regret we have no
influence over the returns policies of any retailer.
We trust the above information is of assistance to you.
Yours Sincerely'
mine was over a year old, gave it away and now i'm a very happy bosch rotac owner0 -
Oh well - think I might give mine one more try (tilting it slightly first!) and if not try and take it back or failing that give it away - if I can!
Thanks everyone for your replies.0 -
Just thought I'd mention that this has actually been recalled now - as a very kind mser has told me.
Will be calling flymo tomorrow to hopefully get rid of the pile of metal!!
