Thank you, is it safe to open this file with a malicious warning then? I am quite confused about that.

Had same warning in Chrome. Ran scans on download(all clear) then ran program.Takes a while to complete but no problems encountered during or after scan.

Hmm. I tried to download it here at work and it was blocked by the company firewall under the category "Malicious Sources". The BC link is a redirect to the author's site (thisisu is the author name) ... what actually IS the author's site?

The Bleeping computer link being flagged is due to JRT.exe (Junkware Removal Tool) being flagged as malware.

What happened when Google visited this site?

    ......

Malicious software is hosted on 1 domain(s), including thisisudax.org/

    Has this site hosted malware?

Yes, this site has hosted malicious software over the past 90 days. It infected 1 domain(s), including bleepingcomputer.com/.

The tool is being flagged as malware by antivirus vendors occasionally due to what the tool does (deletes files, deletes/changes registry settings etc).

These are false positives, the tool is safe to download and use.

Note regarding both domains it now says:
What is the current listing status for bleepingcomputer.com?

This site is not currently listed as suspicious.

You got this when you installed a Java update and failed to deselect the (default) option to install the Ask toolbar with it.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thank you, dogmary, I ran it and the toolbar is still there.

If you installed it recently, just do a System Restore back to a date prior to the date of install. You will not lose any data that way.

  • I think I am being redirected to Ask, as I cannot see the toolbar now but when I search for something I'm taken to Ask. I've run dogmary's Adwcleaner and am searching the log but no sign of Ask!

Set Google Chrome default search engine from ask.com to google.com .
Click the Chrome menu button, then select Settings and click on Manage search engines in the Search section.
In the Search Engines dialog that appears, select Google and click the Make Default button that appears in the row.Next, search for ask.com in the Search Engines list and click the X that appears at the end of the row.
