Timing of a change of supplier

Options
I wonder if anyone could advise on when to change our supplier for gas and electric to avoid any exit charges.

Our duel fuel deal with Scottish Power runs out on 31st March 2013.

We wish to change suppliers as Scottish Power will be automatically putting us on their expensive standard rate from 1st April 2013 and the other option they give us is still too expensive.

At which point should we put into motion our switch to another supplier. For instance do we start mid March looking for a new supplier or do we have to wait until 1st April?

Thanks
Ian

A switch takes 4 to 5 weeks. You should be OK to switch after 7/3/13. Your contract continues until you go on supply with the new provider, not from the date you apply to switch.
