Yellow lines

Can someone tell me please, if there is a plate showing parking restrictions on a road, but there are no yellow lines, faded or otherwise, does this invalidate the sign?
Thank you for reading this message.

Without actually seeing the sign it would be impossible to say. Can you post up an image or at least state exactly what the sign says and the background colour.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

Not necessarily. In some places where there are cobbled streets/listed buildings, in quaint little villages and the like, a Council can get special authorisation to use signs but no lines (apparently 'cos they is ugly!).PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I have to go and check it out to be sure (that there are no lines there). However it is a standard sign, with a yellow background and black letters.
It is on the main A5 road, in the area of LB Barnet. Cars seem to park there, which is what made me wonder about it.
(This is not the actual sign, but one I have copied from Google images).Thank you for reading this message.0 -
I have now had an opportunity to recheck the sign and the road. The sign says Mon-Sat 9am - 5pm. However the lines may have been on the road at one time, but are extremely faded. It is difficult to see as there is nowhere to stop! It would seem obvious that the CEOs are not enforcing this stretch of road.Thank you for reading this message.0

So is anybody going to be able to give me specific advice as to whether the yellow sign is invalid if there are no visible yellow lines on the road?
Thanks.Thank you for reading this message.0 -
The definitive answer would be in the Traffic Regulation Order for that stretch of road.
However while the TRO lays down what the restrictions are these must be reflected in the road markings and signage in oreder to inform the motorist what restrictions are in place.
A SYL alerts the motorist that some restrictions apply and the timeplate details exactly what they are.
Without a SYL why would you bother to look for a timeplate. Equally without a SYL the motorist cannot be sure which part of the road the timeplate refers to.0 -

The good news is that I haven't been ticketed there. It was just an observation.
The area is about six car lengths long, and the sign is in the middle of the stretch. You would almost certainly notice it.Thank you for reading this message.0
