Car insurance cheaper the longer you owned the car?

I've noticed my quote is cheaper if i said i had the car for longer when checking online quotes. It is currently £1600 and if i told them i bought it 3 months ago, then its £1200.

Im going to be 21 in 4 months, so was thinking of getting the car next month and SORN it for 3 months then insure it when im 21. It will be £900 which i think is pretty good for my first car and first year of driving.

Has anyone experience something similar like this? Do insurance companies ask you who you previous insurance was with if i told them i had the car for few months?

Don't see it raising any issues, if you tell them you've no driving history or NCD they'd be unlikely to be interested in who previously insured the car. And there's no problem with it having been SORN, as long as it's roadworthy.

I could imagine their stats telling them that the first couple of months after getting a new car are a period when an unusually high number of claims arise, as the driver is just getting used to the vehicle's peculiarities.
