New oven STINK would not go away

So we got this Beko electric oven- http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/product/OIF22300X-Beko-Electric-Single-Oven-Stainless-Steel-16973.aspx last October, heated it up for the first time- horrendous run-out-of-the-room kind of smell, but fair enough, instructions mentioned first time there might be smell and smoke. But guess what, 3 months later the smell was still there. Not as bad as the first time, sure, but certainly noticeable when you walk into the room(and it's an open plan room) and particularly bad when heated above 200C. It should not smell of ANYTHING when heated, right? Even strong-smelling food just barely masks this odor. It makes us sick. It's permeating and I can smell it even hours later.
Called out an engineer, he said there's nothing he could do, so would arrange for a replacement. Replacement arrives, and after initial burn-off and hours of use later we have EXACTLY the same smell. I just can't believe it. I read the reviews before purchasing and there's NOT A SINGLE one that mentions this problem. Infact it has glowing reviews. I mean how is it possible we have this problem with two ovens!
Just short of taking a sledgehammer to the damn thing and if we do, how do we know another brand wouldn't be the same, it's not like you can try them instore.
Absolute PITA purchase, infact most PITA purchase for a long time.

I find that "new oven smell" is usually burning dust. Have you tried giving behind the oven a good vacuuming, and vacuuming the back of the oven where the fan is?
Also, have you tried giving it a good clean with a strong oven cleaner in case there is some plastic or something stuck somewhere burning.
I hope you get it sorted soon, I hate that smell too!0 -
MamaMoo, I wiped it inside with a soapy cloth, then damp cloth a few times, didn't try any strong cleaners. But we triple-checked and there's certainly no plastic or anything left.
Thanks for the tip re vacuuming the back, didn't think of that, will give it a go.0 -
We have had this exact oven for over 2 years and never suffered with that problem. .. was fine after the first use. Are you sure its definitely the oven and not either your roasting dishes or something in the way you have fitted it ?0

If you have checked it is clean and there is no packaging left in and nothing stuck where it shouldn't be (ie polystyrene intended to protect in transit, under the elements) and are ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN there is no packaging open the back door, close the kitchen door and allow the oven to heat up to its highest temperature and maintain high heat for 15 minutes.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson
