Agreed, what else did they replace?

This is just speculation, but the damamge may have occured because the car wasn't being used. Bad weather can damage seals and if it was left sitting unused this may have been the issue. eg if you leave a car sitting long enough the tyres will go flat and will be unusable

Sounds like a really bad start to tell the warranty company it has been left sitting for 6 months..... even if they were going to cover seals then they won't if the OP has told them it has been left sitting on a drive for 6 months.
  • Wow, it's beyond daft to put modules in a place where water would collect. What happens if, for example, the heater matrix was to leak badly, or a large drink would spill?

Behind the dash would seem a much more sensible place. I feel for you OP, and I'll not be letting my missus buy a Mini now :o

Not the first time BMW do this, see here (warning, offensive words):

The car was left in the garage not on the drive, so it was under cover for the time I was away. At the moment I am still awaiting a reply from the warranty company.

    when they have finished bull$hitting.
Open the bonnet, locate the bulkhead drain bungs and unblock the rubber bungs.
The water will then stop entering the air conditioning and heating system.
    Be happy...;)

Better but did you check the wording on the warranty?

No car likes being set-up for 6 months ....
(I have done it myself when a temporary 'stick it at my brothers' ended up being longer and it did little good for the car!!! )

What I mean is my rental contract for the house has a clause about not leaving it empty for more than 2 weeks.... so check the warranty doesn't have a clause about not using the car regularly.

I have only just received another copy of the warranty today- the original went missing while moving, so I will have a look through it this afternoon. When I bought the warranty I advised them of the fact that due to the nature of my job- being in the forces, I have no choice but to leave the country for long periods of time with little notice and I was told that wouldn't be a problem, but I will make sure I read through the T&C's after.

probably worth enquiring into a possible aftermarket waterproof housing for the modules. unfortunately a small car is has limited space - amnd I'm sure during some of the design stages the question of water contact came up - but it was probably decided to place it there after a series of draft designs and as a last resort.
