Bank charges with Halifax

Hi, i had an account with Halifax a number of years ago, has been closed for about 5 years now i think.
I have just made an initial enquiry with them over the phone about bank charges after reading through the guide on doing so.
Highlighted about half way down the guide is this -
"Never ask for statements, specifically request a list of transactions"
This is what i asked for when i phoned and the gentleman on the phone said they would only be able to provide statements, not a list of transactions.
He also said that it can't be done over the phone and that i would have to pop in to my local branch with ID to request the statements. (Forgot to ask if they would charge for the statements)
It seemed quite important to ask for the list instead of statements the way it was highlighted.
Is this what happens with most people?
Seems quite unfair if they want to charge me for the statements.
thanks
Jay

What guide on doing so? Are you sure you are reading a current guide and not one from before the banks won the court case? This is what i asked for when i phoned and the gentleman on the phone said they would only be able to provide statements, not a list of transactions.
A statement is a list of transactions. Is this what happens with most people?
No. Most people no longer both reclaiming charges as that is largely over now apart from goodwill gestures (such as first time over limit) or current financial hardship cases. Neither require any bank statements/transactions list.Seems quite unfair if they want to charge me for the statements.
They give you statements free of charge. What did you do with them?I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

I had a lengthy phone call with Halifax today over an account that was closed 2 years ago. At first they told me that they couldn't access closed accounts, then they could but couldn't go into transactions and eventuall after I told them that they could as they had to keep records of them they went through every transaction with me over the phone!
Unreal how they try and fob people off. My advice would be to keep persistent and don't give in.0
