New licence and Onternational Driving Permit

Options
Hello.

I will need an IDP(international driving permit) for Florida in April and my UK licence expires in July, so I will renew it then. Also need IDP again in September, so if I get the IDP now, then renew licence in July will I need a new IDP for September?

Or, should I just renew UK licence first, then IDP will be OK for both trips.

Have you seen this? They seem to have realised that they are breaking international law by requiring an IDP

An IDP is valid for a fixed 12 months from its first date of validity and has your UK licence number and a date hand written on it at the time of issue. The 'valid for 12 months from' is preprinted with no provision to change it

On the assumption that a UK licence retains the same number when renewed, there shouldn't be any problems if the two numbers match

I was going to say that the only purpose an International Driving Permit serves is as a translation for a national driving licence which, given that the US speak English, makes the IDP for UK visitors a bit pointless.

Then I realised that Spanish was probably the language of the majority in Florida so it starts to make sense.

    You don't need one.
