You also have to move wires and pipes and so on. Or just leave it alone. Problem would be heat loss and maybe condensation and damp. But if it doesn't have those problems now, and the room has plenty of ventilation and so on, and you don't mind it then it's fine.0

Well, I don't know if it would be enough for a mortgage company. Best ask them. Rather than get a survey done, is there a way you can judge the wall thickness? A door or window would help with that. You can tell them how thick the wall is (if it's more than four inches) and ask if that makes a difference.0 -

Well, it seems like a place you eventually want to sell (within a few years?), so if it's going to have resale issues, then it might be best to move on. But, it's worth finding out if modifications can make it easier to get a mortgage.0 -
I wouldnt say that it is somewhere that we would be looking to sell that quickly ( ie.2-3 years) but it isn't somewhere that we would be looking to spend the rest of our lives.

When you get a basic valuation done with a mortgage company could they then require you to get a more comprehensive inspection done to satisfy them.Now buying our second house:
