Is there any way can physically get the music files that I purchased from the play store or do I always have to stream it?

I don't think this is possible as it links to you google library. As a test I just turned off wifi during playback and it errored.
On the plus side, once purchased you can listen on ANY android device so if you lost the N7 you wouldn't lose the song.0 -
When you DL a track you get emailed a receipt. The receipt says you can log in and DL the track to your PC.
Tested on the free track that I "bought" on my Nexus7. Read the email Google sent.

DLd it to my desktop. Plays just fine.
Just follow the instructions on the email sent by Google to confirm your purchase.0 -
