Mercantile Monthly Saver 7%

Anyone know if the Mercantile Monthly Saver account at 7% from Leeds Building Society is still open for new accounts?

I know it was offered when they merged. Found it hidden away on this page: http://www.leedsbuildingsociety.co.uk/mercantile/mercantile_monthly_saver.html but it's not listed with the rest of Leeds accounts.

when building societies get taken over, the bigger society tends to offer a high paying account to members of the society thats its taken over in hope of encouraging members of the "swallowed" society to invest savings with them

And I think the branch needs to be in their "North East" region - that's places like Chester-le-Street, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Durham and Wallsend.

strange when leeds have their own reg saver paying 5.4% ive been in the branch not heard a mention of it even when ive told them about yorkshire 7% theve just :( can u pm me the text uve had from leeds saying the mercantile reg saver is still open to new account openings, very rare once a building society is taken over their products become closed issues apart from a sweetener account the swallowing society offer the swallowed members in order to lure them to invest in the society thats taken over the one they was with, newcastle BS offered universal members a similar reg saver as well not as high as 7% was about 6.6 or 6.8 by memory

ive just emailed them asking y is it only available to their north east branches

leeds are another building society that believes its repaying members loyalty by doing a 5.05% "loyalty" isa account

Here is my email reply today from Leeds:

    Dear Mr LeeUK

I can confirm that the Mercantile Monthly Saver is still on sale. To apply for this account you would need to contact a branch.

    Yours Sally E Grierson

There is a few Leeds branches around my area (some old Mercantile ones) so I'm going to pop in one next week and open one of these accounts.

heres reply to my question as to y its only available in north east branches, i suspected it was aimed at ex mercantile members, just suprised its still available as usually such offers are only available for short time following merger

    Dear Sir/Madam

    Thank you for your email.

We launched this account in order to welcome our new North East
customers when we merged with the mercantile Building Society.

As Mercantile Building Society was a North East based Society, the
account is based in that area.
