O/S Daily Saturday 16th February

O/S Daily Saturday 16th February This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

    Morning all:j:j

Well Its the early Bird that gets the o'ss for breakfast around here this morning:D
Iv not long got up, But Iv been awake since just before 5:00am, Iv not had a very good night at all. Iv not been ill or anything like that. Its just Iv not been able to sleep very good. I went to bed at just before 11:00pm, Fell of to sleep fast, Then woke at 12:15ish. And Iv only really drifted In and out of sleep until I woke just before 5:00am and could not get back off. I'm sure Im going to suffer for this later.
    Never mind I'm up now.

Today The twins have a birthday party to go to.
Its really twin ones class friend;s party. But we have asked If twin two is ok to go as well, Twin two dose know the kid who's party it is.
Trying to do party's with young twins can be a bit of a game. They don't really understand why the one gets to go and the other one dose not.
Some Mum's do think ahead and invite both. Others we do have to ask. I'm hoping this will get better as they get older and get a bit more use to the idea that one can go off and do something fun while the other one dose not.
The down side to all this twin Inviting is that we will end up having to invite two class's to the girls party. As there has only been a couple of time's when both have not been able to go together. But never mind. Its never boring having twins!

We only need to get a few things form the shops today.
So we will pick them up after the Girls have been to there party. the Party starts at lunchtime.

Don't have any plan's for dinner tonight as yet. I'm not even sure if we will be all eating at the same time.

I wen't to the local butchers yesterday,
I came back with what I think to be a bit of a bargain.
Two great big turkey thighs! £3 each or two for a Fiver. So I had the two. I know they will have a big bone sat In the middle But One should be just enough for me and my wife for Sunday dinner tomorrow.
We have already said that we will do a Honey/lemon/Garlic and mustard glaze for them.:j:j
At £2.50 each I think they are good value.

Well I hope that you all have a great day

    Enjoy yourself's:j:j

  • Good morning halight and to those who cross/follow,
Have been up for a while too, on my second cup of tea. Hubby has gone off to work. Girls are still in bed.
Going to take the dog for a nice long walk today now that all of the big puddles and mud tracks have dried up.
Everywhere is tidy so i really need to get on with the ironing at some stage. I will have to go shopping later.
Tea tonight is lasagne which i made and put in the freezer and chicken curry which i also made and put in the freezer. Just using up bits and pieces, so it will be a case of who wants what. I also have some part baked rolls to go with it. I will get some baking done when i put the lasagne in the oven.
i hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

    Morning everyone

Halight and forever saving - we must be the only mad people up at this ungodly hour!

Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Still dark but seems to be dry underfoot and no frost.

DH woke me stupid early and I couldn't get back to sleep so now enjoying the peace and quiet and a cuppa. He has the second week of his 5 week course today - so he will be going off to do that later - course starts at 9am. Boys still asleep.

Dinner last night was easy chicken and ham kievs, chips and beans/veg for the menfolk, and fish, jacket potato and veg for me. Dinner tonight will be roast at mum's later for me and the boys - not sure whether DH is coming or not - he can organise his own if not. Yesterday I got the base made for the cheesecake which is my contribution to tonight's dinner at mum's - I will get the filling made this morning and leave it in the fridge to set as it needs a few hours. I didn't get any other cooking/baking done yesterday so will try to do some this morning - the tins are virtually empty so need re-stocking for the coming week! I did manage to get the ironing done so there's only 1 load left which was washed overnight so I will get that dry this morning and ironed. May then change our bedding - which will mean another load for washing. I didn't get any other housework done but as I've been doing flylady - house is not too bad anyway - kids go back to school on Monday after half term so will be back to normal next week and then I have a week's holiday the following week so am planning to really get stuck in that week and do a spring clean. I have confirmed with the bathroom company that we want the work to be done so we have a fitting date of 22 April - a bit of a wait but it does give us over the Easter weekend to get sorted for them to start in April - so all good and hopefully it will be warmer and won't be so bad when they need to have heating/water switched off etc.

I've been also doing the grocery challenge myself - keeping note of spends in my desk diary - this week (Friday 15th Feb) was the start of week 3 and the budget has been blown already - I'm £4.04 over and still have this week and then next to go - I have a generous budget of £400 anyway - but include any takeaways, alcohol, toiletries, household cleaning products etc in that - I have done some stock up shops too so not going to beat myself up over it but will get back to baking for the tins etc every week as that seems to help with the spends. I don't have anything else to buy this week so will just try to do damage limitation and try not to be over by any more than necessary. Did visit the butcher and bought a £20 meat deal - which of course is more than a week's worth of meat so will not have too much meat etc to buy next week - will try to get a menu plan done this morning - using as much out of the freezer as possible. Need to start being a bit more creative in the kitchen too as we're back in a food rut - so some different meal ideas are needed. Did do omlettes 1 night this last week and they went down a treat - it's just a faff doing 4 as I can only manage to do 2 at a time but worth the effort for something different. Will be trying to get some food used up out of the freezers as outside one desperately needs defrosting but is still full so will try to use up what I can. I still have 2 whole salmon in there that I bought for xmas and didn't use - will defrost one this week to use up for meals and making a fish pie towards the end of the week.

Sorry - I seem to have written a book - again!!

    Have a great weekend x

    Keep safe and well x

Morning all, Unusual for me to be up this early at the weekend! My son phoned about 20 minutes ago, so that's what got me up. Enjoying the rather weak sunshine and the feeling of not being rushed.
Had a wonderful day with my son yesterday at a playground specially for people with special needs. Everything is adapted to be accessible, staff have known my son since he was 2 (he's now 20) and they are like my second family. It's a secure site so my son can just go off by himself if he wants to. I think that's really important as he lives the vast majority of his life with support workers around him and we all need freedom! We went on the trampoline together which was probably a mistake for me as my hip is on fire this morning, but it was such fun. Today we are going swimming (again a special needs session).
For a long time the most of the time I spent with him was sorting out problems, now we are getting to do fun stuff together and I LOVE it.
OH is helping his daughter choose a new car (lucky her!) today but then coming here for the rest of the weekend. Will make a Pork casserole tonight with roast root veg. Lunch will be a piece of LO HM quiche. Made some orange and sultana tea bread this week......a bit dry but the flavour is wonderful.
Have a good weekend all, hope poorly ones start to improve and those facing difficult times fine the strength to keep going through them.

Halight, sorry to hear you didn't sleep well.
    BBird, hope you are ok.
Hugs to Molly, LW & anyone else in need.
I was awake just before 7 but decided to extend our Valentines celebration so woke hubby up, he's asleep again now with a big smile on his face & a cup of tea.
Last night meal was expensive but yummy, every year my butcher sells individual beef wellington with a pastry heart on them, £3.99 each but worth it.
No real plans today, it's the start of half term, so apart from making sure hubby has a weeks worth of work uniform ready, everything else can wait.
    Have A good day everybody.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning halight and all,

glad to see the sun is still with us. Long may it continue as i need to start to use my rotary line outside to save some pennies.
I was awake just before 7 but decided to extend our Valentines celebration so woke hubby up, he's asleep again now with a big smile on his face & a cup of tea.

Good for you! Its about the only thing that isnt taxed these days so make hay an' all that. :D

Hubby has started to have job offers come in but at the moment he is sticking to his guns and not accepting anything where he is having to work away. He says he wants to work from home now but we will see what happens when his savings dry up or he realizes he cant take out that brand new car that he is taking out for a test drive on Monday.

My knees are still painful and i'm a bit of a mess but apart from that i'm fine.:( I'm tired but thats cause i'm just finishing another 'period from hell'. I still dont understand why i am having them after an absence of 14 months but there you go!

Grocery shopping later. Food bill has gone up considerably since hubby has been home no wonder he cant see his feet (or any other bit of him below the waist for that matter ;)) but he is not on his own as i creak as i walk.

Hope you all see a bit of the sun (and if we're lucky we might feel a bit of its warmth at some point).

    Happy Saturday.

  • Good Morning chums going around the house rather carefully as there is sticky door frames where the builder painted them all yesterday He will start the papering on Monday. The drop from the top of the stairs to the bottom he measured at 15 feet and a roll is just over 17.5 feet so at least 2 rolls will just do the 'drop' So i can see me buying more rolls at this rate The trouble with older properties its all high ceilings.Still it will be nice when its all done I have chosen and ordered my new stair carpet I decided that it was time I have a new one I know I won't be walking on it as I have a stair lift but I just wanted the hall and stairs which are rather dark to be brightened up a bit.So it gets fitted on 5th March.Stair chap comes at 9.30 to take my lift off and the carpet man arrives at 10.30 and when he's gone the stair man will replace my stair lift for me so nice when a plan drops into place and comes together (fingers crossed)
DDs are coming today as it is my wedding anniversary and even though my OH sadly is no longer around here we still celebrate it,we drink lots of coffee and chat about their big soppy daft Dad and it makes it not a sad day, but a day to celebrate him IYSWIMSo I have made lots of their favourite nibbles and cakes
The weather seems to have perked up a bit and the sun is actually shining
Hope you all have a good day what ever you are doing
    Cheers chums
