You don't have to have your eyes fixed on the book the entire time. You read as you walk, look up briefly to cross a road, then resume reading. When I had a 90-minute round trip to my internship I used to get through a book a day.

Of course it is - I commuted to London every day from 1980 until 2010 - working 9-6 (sometimes later) - retired just 2 years ago (aged 68) - thousands do it daily. They are the realistic ones - if you want a job, you do what's necessary!
