Books? How did you manage to walk 90 minutes whilst reading a book? Sounds like you're lying.
I read my book on my excersize machine so its possible ....but wouldn't say I would like to be walking round my area reading a book...think I'd get duct taped to a bench.People don't know what they want until you show them.0 -

You won't bump into people, objects, fall down the stairs, get run over by vehicles or step on broken glass when you're reading a book whilst walking on your exercising machine. And on your machine you're walking in a straight direction, not recognising the route to work you're meant to be walking.0 -

Can a job agency refuse to allow you to apply for a job because they believe it is too far for you to travel without your own transport?
In my opinion it is not too far as public transport would still be available despite the late finish, and frankly in the current climate if I had to walk 90mins to find work, I would!
(Note that transport nor a driving licence is a requirement of the actual job, merely in getting there and back)
I would guess the answer is they can pretty much refuse to allow me to apply for any job (providing they are not discriminating on grounds of race, gender etc).
Just Interested to hear opinions of the more knowledgable members of the board though.
Thanks
SK
If you have/can ride a bike tell them you do have transport, it doesn't say what type of transport you need.0 -

It is just a case of the employer picking and choosing. Employers know that employees who live long distances from their work will tend to not stay as long as those who live closer.0

Hi
As an ex employer.
Providing you arrive for work on time, I wouldn't care how you got there

Every time I've seen an advert for such a job, it tends to be
"must have own transport due to location" or "own transport necessary due to location".
As a driving licence and a car are expected of the candidate, I can't even apply. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0 -
I used to be able to walk and read a book at the same time.
But traffic wasn't as bad as it is now, and I was young and foolish.

Try explaining that statement to Job Center or a Work Programme Company. They both expect Job-Seekers to do just that by any means including walking.Do you really believe you can commute to work 180 minutes every day, without arriving to work physically and mentally fatigued? 90 minutes for one way takes its toll and is not sustainable. Be realistic.0
