Cheap Family Breaks in the UK

Options
Hi

We were looking for somewhere to go for a few nights at some point this year. We want to stay in the UK but want to go somewhere that has lots of child friendly things to do. The last couple of years we have been to Matlock as they have lots of fun activities. We want somewhere with plenty to do but doesn't involve a lot of travelling between places. We usually stay at a Premier Inn as they are fairly cheap. I know a lot of people go to Butlins, hoseasons and places like that but I think they are quite expensive especially if you have to pay for all the food too.

Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.

  • There's a website called dayoutwiththekids - it might give you some ideas. You can look at different areas and see all the activities. Some look quite reasonably priced. I'm not allowed to post the link but it has .co.uk after it.
  • Thanks for that I'll give it a try.

Last summer I took my two boys to Mill Rythe
http://www.mill-rythe.com/families/ it worked out a lot cheaper than Butlins my two were 7 and 5 and they thought it was brilliant, there is a large indoor play area and lots of activities on offer for the children. You do have to pay extra for the activities but the activity pass was £15 each for the whole week and they could do as many as they wanted. My 5 year old even went to the top of the 60ft climbing wall!! Best bit for me was that breakfast and dinner was included (not gourmet food, but well cooked and plenty of choice) Nearby (less than 10 mins by car) is a beach and there is a funfair there were you can buy a day pass for as many rides as you want (think it was £10, it is run by the council so you could check the website for up to date price)

I originally found out about Mill Rythe by entering a comp on a blog here is the link, if you are interested as she writes it up well. http://www.morethanjustamother.com/2012/03/win-family-holiday-at-mill-rythe.html

Hope that helps, wherever you go have fun!

Hi, one summer we stayed at Travelodge in barrow in Furness , family room was 29.00 . Just stayed one night. First day travelled up went to national trust place fell foot park v beautiful good woodland playground, by the water, picnic areas etc.
Second day breakfast at tesco cafe very near Travelodge, then straight to south lakes wild animal park, paid for with tesco deals tokens, great day out again you can take picnic.
The Travelodge is v basic next to a retail park but as a base it was ok the kids loved it like a mini holiday.

What about finding an area, than looking at camping if money is tight? the money saved could be spent on a day out:j When we went for the first time all the cooking equip, and bedding was out from the house so didn't cost anything. We borrowed a tent, so only had the site fee, which for a non elec pitch I think was £60 for the week.
    Visit beautiful Mid Wales:j
  • You guys are great thanks for the ideas. I'll have a look at them. and thanks again
