Are these any good?

As the title says, http://www.groupon.co.uk/deals/national-deal/gardeningexpress/4337464
It says can be grown in planters on patio, what size planters would I need?
Thank you :)

Do you mean the fruit trees?

I'd say they eventually need planters at least 2' in diameter.

Before you buy, investigate the varieties and whether they are self-fertile, or need nearby trees to aid with pollination - apples in particular.

There are 2 apple trees in the deal the rest state fine alone. Seen the fruit trees in aldi, anyone had any joy with these?
  • I bought these last year and they seem fine. I had one apple last year too :-)

    You bought the aldi ones?

Did you have them in pots or ground?

They grow upto around 7ft tall. So a decent sized planter will be needed.

Enough room for some fertilizer/manure every now and then but without disturbing the roots too much.

If you do go for them, suggest you use John Innes #3 compost - it is designed for permanent planting and has the highest proportion of soil (compared to the lower JI numbers or multipurpose compost). It aids drainage, nutrition, and weight (reduces the chance of the planter falling over).

    I've been Money Tipped!
We bought a bramley from either aldi or lidl which has done brilliantly. Very impressed with it. I will probably look out for a granny smith this year too. The peaches otoh are just no good. Not desease resistant and will probably be going. Compared to a desease resistant varity elsewhere in the garden from 'better' fruit tree supplier they look awful.
