Not sure if this is the right area of the forum to discuss it or not (it is motoring related).
Are any of you into your cars and have maybe a project car/ something you are modifying/renovating etc?
I have a sickness for old BMW's the E30 3 series in particular. I don't have one at the mo as I sold my last one in October, but that went from being a humble 316 (carb) to a 2.8 24v animal.
So what are any of you lot tinkering with?
I'll dig out some pics

Sure it's a valid topic for here "cutting costs without cutting back" is the motto of this site so it's as much for discussion of motoring as a hobby as it is for discussing why spending 10 grand to trade in for a brand new Hyundai to gain 5mpg is a dumb idea.
Here's my baby, I hardly drive it these days as it gets 22mpg and I have a company Mondeo. Imported it from Japan at the end of 2008 / start of 2009.0 -
That's a familiar sight - same engine as a 200sx?
I wouldn't say project cars, but I have toys that work with varied success. Couple of Audis and an implausible amount of old Polos.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
I've previously ran 827 v6 rovers (all ex police, L reg's), a 3.5 V8 SD1 and a 3.9 V8 Range Rover (in the past 5-10 years). All decended into project categories then got scrapped.
Recently seen a diesel SD1 that I thought would be interesting (I run my daily drivers on bio/veg oil as required) and I'm currently watching a 4.0 petrol Jag on ebay hoping to put in a cheeky last minute bid on.
That aside, i've not decided whether to get rid of my Audi 80 TDI or keep it as a project when the MOT runs out. Theres not many classic diesels out there.0 -
That Cefiro is a rare sight.
I like old VW's too. The wife runs a MK2 16V Golf as her daily, I have done an engine swap on that too and put the 2ltr 16V donk out of the MK3 16v golf in.
I thought it would be a change from counting groupon vouchers or whatever members do on a night time0 -

Similar, that's an RB20DET, 2 litre inline 6 from the Skyline GTS-4. The 200SX (up until 1994) used the CA18DET which is the same basic design but a 1.8 litre 4 cylinder.
The car does have a lot in common with the Nissan Silvia S13 (Japanese saloon version of the 200SX S13), to the point that if you look under the rear wheelarches you can see a second set of vestigial wheelarches that will take Silvia mudflaps, however mine is one of the oddball versions, the SE-4, it's a 4WD version that gets the engine bay and double wishbone front suspension from the R32 Skyline GTS-4.
I chose the 4WD version specifically because the RWD ones are mainly used for drifting these days, so too much risk of getting one that has been thrashed.
Irocically my GF's 200SX is actually faster, except on corners, because she's had a lot more time to modify it. Can't really call it a project car given it's her daily driver and runs on LPG.0 -
one of my toys...The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0

What's the spec on that MG?0

2.5 litre V6, in endurance race spec, so nothing too extreme. Eibach springs and Gaz shocks; retimed cams, modded ECU, flywheel and induction. Big discs with Wilwood calipers. Janspeed manifolds, fabricated exhaust. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0
