I get at least 3 of these a week.
I just say 'hold on a moment' put the phone to one side and forget about it for half an hour.
You can bet your bottom dollar that they will have gone before you go back to put the phone back on the hook:D
lol, my dad does that too.
''Hold on 2 second whilst I go and get a pen''
He then either just goes on about his business for the next hour or so, or on one occasion, he handed the phone to his 3 year old grandson who just spoke nonsense into the phone until the connection went dead.0 -

My friends husband used to give the phone to their 4 year old whenever they received calls like this, it was hilarious!
it's not only older people whom are taken in by this, i was round at a birthday party for a child a couple of years ago and the mother who was hosting the event got a phone call from her bank saying that their had been suspicious activity on her account, i stopped her just as she was about to give her account info over as they said they needed it for security reasons. (i said politely say that you will ring your local branch up and check with them, she did and it was a scam).
On another note I think people who shout their bank details and personal details over the phone (normally on a crowded bus)when they are purchasing items is also stupid....If you don't ask, you don't get!

Pah, that's nothing. My office is in a multiple business complex, in the office opposite me is a pension company, one of their employees is so loud on the phone, she repeats all the info people give her and everyone can hear. I could so easily have someones entire personal details, bank details, c/card details, the whole bloomin lot, it's awful.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
My little one once answered the phone and was saying yes, yes please, ok that's fine etc.... I just presumed it was my mum until I took the phone off him and someone in a call centre in another country said 'your husband has agreed to buy x y and z, I tried to explain it wasn't my husband and he was insistent saying but he said he was mr x... Of coarse he did I use to call him it in a nick name type of way...
It did make me laugh tho as I Reckon for those few minutes the caller felt like a god and the whole of the off his office were high fiving saying we've finally got someone to buy lol0 -
Here's the thread I think you are referring to, read it and weep )with laughter, so damn funny, pure dead brilliant. This one wasn't a scam though, the guy had his card fraudulently used, and the thread is a result of the convos that were had with credit card debt dept Debitas, it makes compulsive reading.

There is a similar one where they claim the computer has a virus and instead of asking for money they claim to be Microsoft and want you to activate remote support for them.
If you have some spare time it's very funny to string them along.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

The last time I had one of these calls it was obviously from India, so I decided to sgtring them along for ten minutes or so. Then I asked him to hold on whilst I switched the PC on. After another ten minutes, I came back to the phone with an old football referee's whistle. I apologised for keeping him hanging on and then blew the whistle as hard as I could down the phone - hopefully he may have to take some time off "work" with a damaged eardrum.
I hate scammers.0
