uk driving licence
I understand that I have to renew my driving licence photo because in august the photo is 10 years old ( they used my uk passport photo when I done it online ) and Ive heard insurance companys will not insure if driving licence photo is out of date. anyway could I send a photo to DVLA by email or do I have to fill out form D1 and put the photo on the form. Thankyou in advance

Insurance can't be voided if you don't renew your photo, the police can't even do you for it, your licence us still valid.
Not renewing a photo is a civil matter between you and the dvla, and I don't believe anybody has been fined fir not doing so.
If you still have a passport issued in the last 5 years you can renew the photo online, or you need to do it via the relevant forms, you can't email or send a photo by pigeon..0 -
Failure to update the photo on a licence is an criminal offence, not a civil matter. Contrary to s.99 (2A) & (3A)(5), Road Traffic Act 1988,0

But you are entitled to drive until you are age 70.
The dates on the BACK show the entitlement to drive. Failing to update the photo doesn't affect that, and is a minor offence which I've never heard of anybody being prosecuted for.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

I've never heard of any prosecutions either. Mine expired in August 2011. It's been seen by the police since, and I've hired vehicles without any problems.0

read again - (3A) is irrelevant as only Northern Ireland, and anyway not included in (5).
2A states the licence remains in force, so yes it is an offence but does not invalidate licence therefore not insurance either.
And did you check the S.I. that supersedes S.99?

I renewed mine last year. It was a car hire firm that pointed out that it was about to expire.0 -

Rather more than five years. My passport was issued in 2004. I got a new photocard (initial issue, replacing an old paper license) based on my passport photograph last month.0 -

s.2A creates the requirement to update the photograph
sorry, it's s.5 that creates the offence of not complying with s.2A
The 2012 S.I. has some amendments to s.99, it does not change the requirement of s.2A.0 -

Fair enough.. I always thought it was between the dvla and the licence holder, I shall consider myself put in my place0 -
Hi
Does anyone understand the renewed photo licences issued after 19 jan 2013.
We've just renewed both of our photo driving licences. It seems we have more categories we are able to drive. Mine has a list on the back with codes in the third column (column is headed by no. 12) and has codes such as 79, 01, 101, 107 etc. I have codes against every class. My husband has about 3 codes in column 12 - why is that? I passed 26.01.81 and he passed in March that year.
Can anyone shed any light on this? The Cabbage
