Bought a lemon. Lets see if I get a refund.

Right, after my Octavia failed it's MOT I purchased a Zafira 2.0DTi on a '03 plate for £2.2k.
Today, after 1 week of driving, I took it to my mechanic for a full nose-to-tail examination to pick-up any faults whilst still under warranty. He found quite a few, so I have informed the trader & given him 2 options -
1) - repair the faults
2) - full refund.
He will cal me back in the morning with a full response.
Updates will follow.
WHY didnt you get your mechanic to check the car BEFORE you bought it?0 -
Issues include -
Excess wear on discs/pads on every wheel
3 fault codes assocciated with the EGR (previous owner knew there was a problem and had the sensor replaced without luck)
Diesel fuel leak
Rear exhuast hanger no longer attached to back box.
Error code for engine preheater (Zafira's don't use glow plugs)
and quite a few other issues as well. Having paid slightly over book price (Glasses reckons £1900 for indie & £2000 for main dealer), I would have expected most of the faults to have been spotted and rectified.
Zafiras DO have glow plugs.
If the car is not alerting on the codes generated via the engine management lights then i'm not sure they can be described as 'faults', that is to say, if the car ECU has made a decision not to the alert the driver, then why would the dealer repair them?0 -
Leak in fuel system = MOT failure
Just because something would cause a car to fail an MOT doesn't mean that that vehicle is unroadworthy.
If a car fails an MOT you can still legally drive it on the road if you are going to a garage to get repair carried out or if you are going for another test.
Do you think that the government would allow you to do this if failing an MOT meant that the car was automatically unroadworthy?0 -

If that is all you have to complain about on a 10 year old car, think yourself very fortunate. IMHO you have no grounds to expect and no chance of a refund."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

If you want a perfect car, take your £2k down to a dealership and put it down as a deposit on a brand new car.
Buyers like this make me very glad I'm not in the business of selling cars.0 -

Its buyers like this that are one of the reasons why i'm OUT of the motor trade.
Giving a 10 year old car to a mechanic and telling them to do a full depth end to end examination of it to find faults and hes going to think its christmas0 -

The only possibility of a refund is if the garage realises that this buyer is out to cause trouble and is never going to be pleased and they throw him his money back to get rid of the hassle.0 -
If it has covered 90,000 + and has no receipt for the DMF, the mechanics list is the last of your worries.Be happy...;)0

I can absolutely guarantee the car has NEVER had a DMF fitted.
An 03 Zafira will be a Zafira A which has the 2.0DTI engine (or possibly a 2.0DI), which doesnt have a DMF.
The 1.9CDTI engine has the DMF, fitted to the Zafira B.0 -
Man bought a lemon or lemon bought a car?0
