Is it possible on Ebay?

Hi, my DH was made redundant last year and has been unable to find anything other than temp work. Having done various research on what sells well on Ebay I have decided that Ikea duvet covers sell incredibly well. We are only 5 minutes from an Ikea so no problem getting ho.d of them but my question is, as a "'general' seller and not a business one would I be able to sell these?
I need to try and up our income and this seems a great way if only I can do it.
Thanks.

If you're buying something with the intention of selling it on, you must register as a business seller with ebay, and keep records of your sales etc for HMRC purposes.0

Thank you for this, I hold a full time job and DH works as a temp when he can get it but I assume if I were to get my DH to register, he wouldn't be able to claim job seekers if and when needed?
All very confusing! :rotfl:0 -
Apart from the tax issue, it doesn't sound like a great plan. Duvet covers are quite costly to post, so make sure that is factored in. Also Ikea bedding sizes are not standard so you'd need to make that clear otherwise you'd end up with returns.moments_of_sanity wrote: »Hi, my DH was made redundant last year and has been unable to find anything other than temp work. There are plenty of opportunities to earn money by selling on Ebay, I don't think you've found one and if you have you've just shared it with several thousand other Ebayers on here..0 -

Nothing confusing about not being allowed to claim job seekers allowance if you already have a job. I am surprised that research shows Ikea duvet covers sell well, completed prices on eBay show some very poor prices even before factoring in fees.moments_of_sanity wrote: »Hi, my DH was made redundant last year and has been unable to find anything other than temp work. As for other issues, yes buying to resell makes you a trader and would need to be declared to HMRC. However, if very small profits are made and this remains a small venture then it is worth checking whether it would affect JSA and maybe the DWP would be the best ones to ask. The people on the benefit board know more about what you can and can't do so they are also a good place to start, but obviously not a replacement for accurate info from DWPI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Well maybe not ikea duvet covers, but keep doing your research as there are a number of readily available items that can turn a regular profit.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Trust me, you won't turn a profit buying bedding from Ikea. But I think you knew that. They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

You can claim JSA if working under 16 hours a week and declaring your hours to the jobcentre; you also prove your income with payslips. Obviously, they pay less JSA as a result, but it means you can get National Insurance Credits and it supports your claim for Housing and Council Tax benefits.
If you're temping, you sign off JSA and when your contract ends, go back to the jobcentre and file a Rapid Reclaim.;)0
