P45U Form - Job Centre

So I started a job a few months back after being on JSA for a few weeks - I was at Uni before that. Anyway, was late in handing my p45 from the job centre to my employer so I was over-taxed for the first 2 months.
I was under the impression that once my tax code was corrected, I would get this money back with my wages - had 2 phone calls with HMRC telling me so. Phoned again last week but apparently I need to get a P45U form from the job centre and send it to hmrc and then I will get my tax back.
Probably being stupid here but which part of P45 is P45U? Job centre sent me p45 ages ago, but I gave parts 2 and 3 to my employer and I have 1A, which I am to keep. Is 'P45U' something different?
Also annoying as I can't get to job centre to ask about it because I am at work during their open hours and can't find an email address for them.
Any help would be appreciated.

  • If you have already given in your P45 2/3 to your employer - they should be able to send those into the tax office and get a notice of coding issued on that basis. You do not need another P45 U or otherwise. Not only that but they are not called P45 U's anymore so far as I am aware - they have DWP(JSA?) after them now. Your employer should be able to operate code 810L month or week 1 emergency code just based on that. Are you likely to earn more than £8105 in this year in total? If not then at end of tax year if the total earned has not been corrected - you can send in your P60 to the tax office for a refunded adjustment for this year. The Part 1a will state how much benefit you got so just add the 2 figures together to find out if you will be above tax threshold or not.

From the part 1A can you give the full details that appear in sections 6 7 and 8?
