How long is a piece of string comes to mind - it all depends on any backlogs of claims in the office where you sent the medical form to. But usually - it should be within 4 weeks for them to either book a date for a face to face medical or if they have enough evidence from the form or your GP / Consultant to make a paper based decision. You might get a phone call if they have a cancellation for the medical and so be dealt with sooner or you may just get a letter.

If it's for a continuing claim it depends where you live. It took about 2-3 months for me to hear anything. I ended up calling ATOS to ask what was happening (DPW knew nothing) and they told me I didn't need another medical.

If it's for a new claim it should be done in about 13 weeks from the start of the claim.

It took nearly 5 months for me to hear again after I sent in my ESA50!

You should hear in about 3 weeks that that they have closed your claim for non return of ESA50.

Do yourself a favour, save yourself lots of hassle....phone ATOS and confirm they have received it 0800 2888777
Then phone your ESA BDC and tell them you want a note put on your record that you have just spoken to ATOS and they have confirmed receipt.

Sent ESA50 back on 14th december got letter on 28th december for a face to face with atos on jan 10th got phone call on 24th jan with the result hope this helps

sent my esa 50 off in November 2012 and not heard anything!
all i know is that they received it
