Paypal negative balance - any help?

Through something that happened (which was entirely my fault), I have ended up with a negative Paypal balance of ~£500.
I've so far managed to get it down to ~£425, I was just wondering if it's best just to continue to "chip away" at it, or contact Paypal and arrange something more formal (like £100/month).
I'm not really in a position to pay the whole thing off in one go, just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and how good Paypal were about it?

Have you contacted Paypal for advice?

Haha, an obvious one that. :rotfl:
Tbh, I'm kinda scared so was asking for folks' experiences before I went to them and made a fool of myself. Forewarned is forearmed and all that0 -

Cheers, to be fair my first response on a forum would be the same.
Either that or a lmgtfy link :rotfl:
Oh, the irony....0 -
Does anyone have any experiences/advice on this?0

Well, it's a big enough debt for them to take you to court for, so communication with them is advisable!
Could you sell some stuff on ebay to pay off the negative balance?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
yep u need to pay it
you can sometimes sort payment plan with their dca but if you ignore it,they will hound you with letters and phone calls. their dca company arent nice and they could even go to court with the debtJames tucker

Look out for paypal collections emails - cbc@paypal.com. If you find you don't fancy speaking to them on the phone (I can understand that), do answer those emails and explain what your plan is, i.e. that you'll pay xxx for so many months.
Usually if the account stays negative for over 30 days their policy is to pass it to a collections agency. Again not as scary as it might sound, just communicate via email and DEFINITELY communicate, don't ignore.
I hope that helps,

Thanks a lot guys.
I managed to answer one of their calls (they don't let it ring for long!).
The chap I spoke to was fairly decent, and agreed to accept a split payment on my next two paydates. I've been chipping away at it in the meantime through ebay sales etc so that's not too bad. The only problem is that they simply MUST have payment from a debit/credit card - simply BT'ing to the Paypal balance as I usually do isn't good enough, apparently.
Need to get myself a p/paid card now, aaargh.
Thanks for all of your help, I hope this thread may help someone in a similar position in the future, as judicious googling simply did not yield any relevant results for me!0 -
Thanks for the update, it's nice to hear back
Btw, I've been in a similar sitaution and kept BTing, of course they WANT you to have a debit or credit card linked - it gives them more control and comfort. Don't worry too much about faffing around with a prepaid card, they cost you and that's not very MSE
Glad you got it sorted.
