Thank you for answerinf my questions so far, my head is spinning. im sure my story is similar to others here. Wife left me with debt, i bailed her credit cards out many times to the tune of 39K. shes long gone. You have answered my car question as to ownership. its my partners so thats my relasionshp sorted (THANKS)
now next question i have a motorbike, my bike i brought it value of £2200-2500 i need this to get to work 40miles a day. will the OR make me sell it. I cant get a cheaper one as I only have an auto licence (rare) so there are to few bikes to chose from and my current one is the lowest price. I cant use a scooter to do the sdame journey to damn dangerous and public transport is out of the question, rual setting. Using the bike halfs the time it would take in a car and therefore saves me money on childcare costs as i can pick up my daughter earlier. thoughts?

i had an automatic bike technically a scooter but a 500cc
i was allowed to keep it but it had a low value as it had done alot of miles. also i demonstrated a need for it medically and due to where i live.
i do knpw you need to demenstrate a need for it but also i think the value of yours maybe an issue. you need to get as much evidence as possible to demenstate that you need it.
what bike is it

Thanks, an Aprillia Mana 850, I cant ride mauel bikes as dont have a licence , only auto. plus all the 500cc scooters i have ridden i dont feel safe on, wont get anything for £1000 that would not need alot of work doing to it. it has to be reliable and safe.0

I work in the funeral business, so I cant arrive at peoples house s to do an arrangement on a scooter or a rust heap.0

O also, the value of "2000-2500 of the bike is what id get for a trade in, there are only a few on ebay tec and they just dont sell as such a nieche market. I could sell it tomorrow for a grand, yes but then what?0

I think it unlikely you would be allowed to keep something of that value. I suspect the OR would get their own valuation and take it from there. They may claim it (collect it) sell it and give you £1000. Maybe a cheap car is a better option? Safer for your child too."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. THing is using a car will cost me £500 a year more in child care( penalties for late pickup) so three years 1500 plus giving me 1000 foir bike is more than bike worth. see silly to me.0

The OR isn't interested in that sort of argument. They are wanting to see what assets are available for your creditors. If you need to adjust your SOA slightly more to run a car, if needed, they are more likely to accept that than let you own something of much higher value than normally allowed."Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. So could my partner buy it off the OR? difference is 1500 subjuect to valuation?0

My advice would be to TALK to the OR. Their job isn't to make life harder for you, the OR is only interested in what they can get for objects to enable payments of debts, if you can demonstrate that you have a genuine need for a vehicle and back it up with evidence then they are probably going to listen. Communication is the key, if you are upfront, truthful and honest with your OR building up a good relationship then all should be good. [Tho I can't promise that!]
If the OR takes your bike, it won't be sold on a forecourt or even ebay - it will be sent to an auctionhouse and they will get much less for it, so unless they will make a profit from it then they won't bother.Donna

sorry i dont agree
i have a 500cc scooter, its massive! im always getting comments on how bigg it is and how big is the engine. i also only have an automatic licence. it will do 100mph and has road pressence. you can pick them up for around £1k although will be higher mileage. i have had 2 accidents on smaller bikes and would never go back to a small bike as i dont feel safe but this bike is fine. as said above the examiner is only really interested in assett point of view but,if you can demanstrate a need they do listen.
mine was a lovely lady and dealt with my bike first but as i say i was lucky as it was worth little although was my whole lie.James tucker
