Energy club: Need to know annual energy usage?

Options
Hi all, we signed up to the MSE energy savers club as we really need to be on the right tariff due to myself being long term sick off work and currently not receiving any benefits.

We have only been in our home since July 2012, our monthly payment just shot up from £90 to £171 so we need to change to a cheaper tarriff, so before we input our usage data do we need to have lived here a full year to get an annual average? What figures should we use to get the truest price comparison and If we contact Npower would they be able to give us the figures we need?

Any help you could give us would be great as we have just stayed with the previous occupants tariff.

Many thanks in advance.

Ideally you need a full year's usage in kWh to reflect your own lifestyle.
However, if you have usage from the start of July to the end of January, that is going to be pretty much a fair representation of your average monthly usage. Having checked my own figures, I've used about 60% of my annual usage of electricity and gas in that period, and it covers 59% of the year, so working out an average annual usage from that history shouldn't be so far off, so long as your usage pattern hasn't changed dramatically.
Monthly charge is of little use, as you can't say how much of that is covering existing account balance or aiming for a zero balance by a particular month.

Just use average figures. For a 3 b/r home with gas CH and DHW, that's 16,500kWh of gas and 3,400kWh of electrcity. But if your DD has gone up that much it is not due to price increases, but to a big catch-up bill because you have been underpaying since you moved in probably, and have not been submitting your quarterly readings.
You won't be able to switch if you have more than about £200 debt on the account.
