Getting survey from previous solicitors?

Hi, vendor has suggested that if we get an offer accepted on a property we could save money by requesting survey and reports off the solicitors of the previous buyers. Is this possible / a good idea?

Possibly.
The solicitor would have to ask its client if it wishes to release such documentation to you and they may require payment.
Surveys are contracts between the surveyor and the client and they may feel they do not wish to breach their contract.
I've heard of searches being purchased after an aborted sale, again with the permission of the person who paid for them.
Not forgetting, of course, that such documents go stale, typically after six months, and would then be unacceptable to any mortgage lender.I am a mortgage broker. Highly unlikely.
The surveyor who did the survey did it solely for the benefit of his client (the previous buyers) and not for the world at large. The surveyor owns the IP of the report and won't want it banded around the country.

Hi, something similar happened to us when we sold our house. It needed a bit (ie, a lot) of work doing to it - and after 5 failed sales and 18 months on the market, it was getting a bit embarrassing for the EA.
When the 5th guy pulled out due to a mortgage retention (I think that had been the problem with all of them) the EA managed to get a copy of the survey off the surveyor who he was 'friendly' with (we asked no more questions!). The surveyor and the client were happy for the EA to make it available to any cash buyers who had shown any interest in the property previously, this was just enough to convince a cash buyer to come in, and a couple of months later we moved.
I have a feeling though, that the EA made it clear that the buyer would have no recourse with the surveyor if any loss was incurred on the basis of the survey, as this was (as the others have said) a contract between him and his client.
So, it's a bit of a gamble - but less than not getting a survey at all.0
