I too am amazed that it could be misread in this fashion. Its simple enough. Not like the days of dial type meters where some skill and interpretation was required.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • Is this just a case that you have an imperial meter and they have billed you for a metric meter (possibly adding a zero in front of your 4 digits). If that is the case then you have been undercharged.

If you post some details from a bill, giving us the meter units used and how many kwh they have been converted to we can prove/disprove that theory.

Especially as in your OP you state that they think you have had a new meter installed, all new meters are metric, so perhaps they are billing you for one.

Hmmm - So it's confirmed it's an Imperial meter with four main whole unit dials, and two fraction of a unit dials - say 1234 89

This meter is capable of recording 9,999 whole units, which converts to appx. 314,968 chargeable KWh, which at 16,000 a year is enough for 19 years before it zeros to start again.

I am concerned that with the suppliers comment about the meter being changed, when it was not and the insistance that it is a 5 figure meter, the supplier thinks that it is a Metric meter which would require 5 figures, and has been billing on a Metric meter basis.

I suggest bobthrea looks at recent bills and divides the meter units used into the Kwh charged - If the answer is around 11.2 I'm afraid the supplier has been billing on a Metric basis and has been seriously underchargeing

  • Thanks for all the replies guys.
Will keep going and see what happens.

    cheers
    D'oh
