Charged annual fee on cancelled card

I paid off my Virgin Atlantic Credit Card(MBNA) on 03/02. Received letter dated 05/02 stating all was cancelled & I'd only have remaining interest to date to pay.

Then today I get my usual weekly text balance stating they've just charged me £140 annual fee, despite me checking that I had cancelled in time.

I've called them & they've said it was an admin error and they would try & get it reversed!!! Try? Try? Aargh! What happens if they don't?? I'm not paying a s00ding annual fee for a cancelled card!

  • The correspondence has probably crossed.
You will be able to check when your next statement with accrued interest drops on your mat.

Technically as the card was not closed (you will still owe pennies in interest)they could try to justify the charge so don't charge in there with all guns blazing.
