Getting a phone line connected???

I am moving to a new house tomorrow, it has been empty for around three years and the current owners are developers so never used the line. I rang BT and they told me that no active line is at that address and I can get it connected for £40 online which sounds fine. But on the website it makes you choose a call package and I dont want that, just the line to be activated. I want to go with Tesco for a broadband and calls package as they are cheaper. But how do I get just the line alone activated?

any help much appreciated

Who will you be paying line rental to? Do Tesco do line rental or is it just a calls package?

Assuming it is BT you need to select Unlimited Weekend Calls - "If you just need a BT landline or just make calls at the weekend this is the option for you."

Tesco do line rental, which is cheaper than BT. That is what is confusing me. I dont want to get a BT line installed and pay line rental for an 18 month contract when I want to use Tesco!

    Ill try calling tesco.

AL BT line rental includes some element of calls included. Just get Tesco to reconnect the line, or any provider you like. BT Retail do not have a monopoly on line provision or reconnection. Plusnet for example will charge you around £49.
