Kittens being "done"

My two baby boys are being netured tomorrow. They are ten months old now, the breeder told us not to get them done until a year old but we now know we should never have listened to her as she doesnt know what she is talking about. One of the boys has started calling / wetting the bed (which I assume is spraying) so he needs to be done.

I am really nervous, they are my babies! I have experienced my parents cats being "done" but never my own.

I just wanted to know when they will be "back to normal" they are being done tomorrow so I have all weekend with them - should they be ok to be left alone on the Monday?

  • As they're boys, it really is a very straightforward op and you really have no need to worry. If they're anything like the boy cats I've had, they will be pretty much back to normal as soon as you bring them home (although mine were all neutered at an earlier age).

They will be fine. It was your breeders recommendation, she isn't wrong.
Obstacles are things a person sees when he takes his eyes off his goal.
  • When Salem came home he slept for a couple of hours and then he was back to his normal self running around like a looney (he was 4 months when he was done). I went back to work the day after his op.

I predict they will not need to get 'back' to normal as they will be completely normal as soon as you get them home! They should definitely be OK to be left on the Monday.

One of mine had a slight infection a few days afterwards, there was a small amount of watery discharge from his sack area and he seemed a bit quiet - a quick course of antibiotics and he was fixed in no time. I think it's quite unusual for complications as it's such a quick and simple procedure, they don't even need stitches.

What breed are they? I wonder if breeders only recommend later neutering so they can develop muscular-wise eg if you think of the typical un-neutered stray they are generally muscular with very big heads. The normal age for neutering is 5-6 months in regular moggies and some rescues will perform the op from around 16 weeks or even earlier in the US (8 weeks+).

dylan came home from being 'done; and was bouncing around as though nothing had happened. scruff has her op the same day and we were more concerned but she was fine.

no adverse reaction from either - scruff just looked odd as shes a long haired cat and it took weeks to grom back.

My two Bengal crosses were back to normal the same day, it seemed! They were done at 6 months and really had no problems whatsoever - please don't worry!

when Giz came home, he was wearing the cone of shame, but i took it off and just distracted him from licking the would too much, after a couple of days he wasn't too bothered by it.
