What does "pretentious " mean I would like to know. Does anyone know?

I don't want to sound pretentious lovey, but it's hard to explain these things to the common people.

  • For the best bread and choice, make your own. You can add an flavours, textures and it tastes ooooh so good.

Gluten free, preservative free, big loaves, small loaves, rolls. The choice is yours. Plus contrary to belief it is cheaper and quick.

Thanks for the thread. It has convinced me to make my own again. Does anyone know about how healthy or otherwise the packet mixes are?

It's just as easy to make your own mix as it is one of those packets, and a lot cheaper. If you've not got a breadmaker someone posted a link here the other week on how to make bread in the slowcooker, not tried it yet but it looked pretty simple.

^ agree. I don't really like the packet mixes.

Just use a nice quality flour and buy the rest separately ie the yeast etc.

I've never asked Edwardia but i'm told off others here that you can get fresh yeast for free from some of the supermarkets

It's not that easy though.. Sainsbury's gave out fairly old yeast too so wasn't that impressed.

    :rotfl:*wags finger* naughty, naughty! :rotfl:

The bread I like for most sandwiches is Sainsburys Taste The Difference Multi-seeded - love, love, love it! Turkey sasndwiches, however, have got to be made with thinly sliced white bread. :)

To go with a Ploughman's, it's usually soda bread - toasted or not - or HM parmesan & tomato.

Tried Paul Hollywood's cherry & chocolate white cob the other day & that was nice. Not as sweet as I thought it might have been so was pleasantly surprised - nice toasted.
