My thanks to Saver0811 for the inspiration provided by the best tasting butter thread.
Although I don't eat bread myself (I have diabetes and low carb) my mother and husband are bread fiends so I am always buying bread and hearing the mmmmm sounds as they slather on President unsalted butter.
Some breads can seem a tad expensive but it's not like eating a piece of meat, one meal and it's gone. You get to go back again and again and do the butter slathering and mmmin ll over again.
OH's #1 bread is Gail's Bread olive sourdough bread www.gailsbread.co.uk which I get from Ocado. He rummages in the bags almost before the Ocado driver is off the doorstep.
Another of his favourites is the Flour Power City Bakery pain de campagne www.flourpowercity.co.uk from Riverford www.riverford.co.uk
OH didn't go a bundle on the Gail's Bread pain de mie from Ocado, saying it was too sweet but my mother snaffled the rest of the loaf and said it's ideal for breakfast.
Another one OH didn't like was the Daylesford fruit bread from Ocado, which again my mother went into raptures over. I did try a teeny piece and if you like fruit bread this is so fruity and nutty you can taste what each individual fruit or nut is and Daylesford certainly isn't stingy with either.
From Lidl, OH likes the ciabatta you bake yourself but not the ciabatta rolls, He's hoping our local Lidl gets an in-store bakery.
OH's all time favourite cheese rolls so far come from the instore bakery in our local Tesco Express and cost 36p each. He says they are cheesy all the way through unlike Ocado cheese rolls which he hates.
In the organic baguette taste-off, Waitrose (99p) was 1st, Tesco (90p) 2nd and Sainsbury's a long way off in 3rd (90p).
For an everyday lunch roll, he says the Sainsbury's SO organic wholemeal 4 roll pack at $1 is reasonable.
OH likes The Authentic Bread Co cheese scones from Abel & Cole www.abelandcole.co.uk He also likes Respect Organics carrot cake 1.80 from Sainsbury's and Tesco www.respectorganics.com and I've never seen a man wolf Soreen malt loaf as fast as he can.
Do you like home made bread ? Is speciality bread the stuff you slather your butter on or does a good slice of toast do it for you ?
This is the bread thread !

For an 'everyday' bread the Tesco Finest multigrain farmhouse from the on site bakery is tasty and satisfying. I *think* I am referring to this product but it was definitely sold as a Finest when I was last buying it
http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Product/Details/?id=257799242
Ingredients not too bad
"Wholemeal Wheat Flour, Water, Mixed Grains And Seeds (10%) (Wheat Flakes, Millet, Sunflower Seeds, Cracked Wheat, Barley Flakes, Cracked Rye, Linseeds, Poppy Seeds), Wheat Gluten, Yeast, Dextrose, Vegetable Oil, Salt, Spirit Vinegar, Barley Malt Flour, Flour Treatment Agent (Ascorbic Acid)."
ETA yes it is that one, the sliced says Finest on the packaging

For toast/everyday bread it has to be Vogel Soya&Linseed- cannot stand soft/puffed bread that sticks to the back of your mouth , if you know what I mean. Or Burgen Soya&Linseed if cannot get Vogel.

Any brand of tiger loaf for me, with slices of butter0

The BBC prog "food and drink" this week with Mary Berry is worth a watch. Much made of the (negative) health impact of mass produced bread versus handmade. It's made me rethink what I feed my daughter (up to now the Hovis 5 seed bread).Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0

Anything from the Flour Power City Bakery is gorgeous. I used to live near Borough Market and would spend far too much money on their bread. Their rye bread is really good.0 -
What does "pretentious " mean I would like to know. Does anyone know?0

Only in the UK would someone sneer at other people for liking bread that actually tastes like bread and doesn't stick to the roof of your mouth and taste like cardboard.
Only on MSE is it OK to sneer at people for wanting to eat decent food without added undeclared horse - but woe betide anyone who suggests that additive laden 4p Tesco mushy peas aren't healthy.
Since this is the second thread you're trolling I suggest you go eat your mushy peas on Discussion Time and go criticise David Cameron instead.0 -
Warburtons Milk Bread and Oatilicious are mine.
Other than that it is homemade Very Easy Bread and Dan Lepards Milk Bread all the way.
I think ready made bread recommendations are fab, way to go @edwardia.#TY[/B] Would be Qaulity MSE Challenge Queen.
Reading whatever books I want to the rescue!:money::beer[/B

Thanks for the reminder, I forgot to watch this but just caught it on catch up.
The bread section makes for good watching for anyone buying processed bread, shame about the idiot bloke presenting that section though.. I had seen a prog on the Chorleywood bread process before but didn't realise the UK still has an additive in bread that has been banned in Germany.
I make my own bread, hardly ever eat shop bread but I have had Waitrose organic, Morrisons organic (they have a surprisingly good artisan type section) and a local bread from http://www.chalkhillsbakery.com/0 -
My husband liked Warburtons Farmhouse Bread and I liked bread from Greggs. At least it tasted as bread :j At the end of summer my hubby bought me Panasonic breadmaker and that was the end of shop bought bread :rotfl:
I like that Use only 6 ingredients, flour, yeast, water, salt and sugar.
It is fresh and delicious.Once in two, three month we buy shop bread to make hot sandwiches. (usually the one which is smallest size to fit in hot sandwich maker)
Two weeks ago we bought my hubby's favorite Warburtons soft bread, he ate and told that, something is wrong with bread, it is so heavy, somehow wet and don't taste so nice.I tried it too, but it tasted like always,He just didn't eat it for ages !
My hubby don't say much compliments but when at last I baked (ok.not me but Panasonic breadmaker)bread he told that it is so fresh so delicious!!!:T:T:T
I like waitrose Canadia Strong bread flour, bread is so yummy!
We rarely buy rye bread, because when i try to bake it myself it is nice but never so yummy as it supposed to be.
Recently I tried The Village Bakery organic rye bread, 800g from waitrose. 1.77 £ Delicious, proper rye bread and so great that it is organic:D
