Increasing the rent - tenants angry.

I'm sitting opposite my lettings agency manager. One of her landlords, a Lithuanian, with 10 properties today instructed her to increase all rents.
Listening to my lettings manager making calls to all the tenants, they are very unhappy and she's getting it in the kneck.
The landlords stance is that rents have risen locally (true) and that's the going rate.
Tenants just don't get this point about the landlord being engaged in a money making business, period.
Some have said they will go elsewhere, but it's unlikely as rents have genuinly risen quite dramatically.

Some would say most tenants don't understand what a money making business is.
If they did, would they be tenants?Said Aristippus, “If you would learn to be subservient to the king you would not have to live on lentils.”
Said Diogenes, “Learn to live on lentils and you will not have to be subservient to the king.”0 -
Who is happy when the prices of anything rises?
Maybe they should have been joyful instead? Idiots.0 -
What has the landlord being Lithuanian got to do with anything ?0

Shouldn't the tenants be informed of such changes in writing once their current contracts are due for renewal? Sounds like the usual unprofessional lettings agency approach.
My rent's gone up once (by £50 per month) in 4 years. Currently looking at areas in London where I could buy- not remotely tempting. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
Why is she phoning, surely she should be sending out Section 13s?0

If this was a newspaper then the poster would have to abide by the PCC Editor's code which doesn't allow the media to mention an individuals race unless it is specifically relevant to the story.
Since this is a discussion forum, and not a newspaper, then it seems to me that there should be freedom of speech which is an individual's democratic right.
Only a fascist would suggest that free speech not be allowed.
Besides I find it quite interesting. If a Lithuanian has 10 rental properties, it demonstrates that there is opportunity for everybody in the UK.
Unless there is something more to the story of course.0 -
Only a fascist would suggest that free speech not be allowed.
And only a fool would equate a question about relevance with a suggestion about free speech being suspended. Good to know we have to you illustrate that point.
Personally my first thought was that Conrad needs to get out more if that's where he's spending all his time; but I think we've known that for a whileHaving a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. Blackwhite bellyfeel double plus good...0 -
and I care why.....?Faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0

As a landlord, spending time in a lettings agency is part of your job. The whole "needing to get out more" is only relevant with what someone does with their spare time.
Does a doctor 'need to get out more' because he's seen spending time in his surgery?0
