Hard drive query

Hi all,

Hard drive issues in yet another laptop. PC World have suggested getting a SSD hard drive as this eliminates the usual HD issues.

Has anyone done this and do they really work better?

Also as current laptop will get a new normal hard drive under warranty, but obvs everything will be wiped - is there any program that saves favourites etc? Have documents etc on back up hard drive already. Just want something to remember faves and passwords

    ssd's can fail too.

favourites can usually be exported, depends on the browser.

what are you backing up with now

    which browser are you using

    which passwords need backing up

  • Starting to get faults when starting the computer. Took it for a check and faults on hard drive showing.

Back up onto external hard drive and memory sticks.

Just its the second laptop in 9 months to do the same. We arent hard on them! Lost some work on last one and don't want to lose any again, or go through having no computer while its fixed!

    Could you be more specific?

ie what faults, how was it checked, what backup software

a disk image backup to an external drive and boot disc is the best way of preventing losing data, as it backs up data, windows, programs, passwords, favorites the lot

A second or third copy of important data on dvd is also a good idea.

  • Yes. Then considering the SSD if it is better. And continue to back up weekly.
