Yep, when the country is in trouble the Tories always get elected. They've run the UK for far longer thasn Labour have.
I have upto this point always been a Tory voter, so take what I say in that context.
Even after 13 years of Labour ruining the country, the most unpopular PM ever in Gordon Brown the Torys still couldnt get a majority.
After a few years of constant U-turns, continuing the same failed pathetic socialist polices, pretending to make cuts, more lies about the EU - I will not be voting Tory again. I dont think Im alone. Its UKIP for me, who I dont think will win. But I would rather vote for someone or something I want than a liar who will do the opposite.
So yes I think Labour will be back in 2015 to continue their destruction. Good luck with it I say.0 -
Labour talking about bringing back the 10% tax rate has to be one of the stupidest ideas I've heard, why not just raise the personal allowance by double instead of making the tax system even more complex??
Another thing with the 10% tax rate is it would benefit everyone, including those on high incomes, whereas raising the personal allowance is tapered off for anyone near or above the top bracket.0 -

Electorate was happy to take the benefits handed out.
Not so willing to forego them.0 -

I no longer have the luxury of making a choice as I no longer live in GB and even when I did I lived in a Labour dominated area which was a bit galling for someone like me who is a true blue.
Democracy is about choice however so how can I criticise you for making one which suits you?0 -
A 10% band doesn't have to benefit higher rate taxpayers.Another thing with the 10% tax rate is it would benefit everyone, including those on high incomes, whereas raising the personal allowance is tapered off for anyone near or above the top bracket.
Next tax year the Personal Allowance rises from £8105 to £9440 (more for people born before 5/4/48) but the point at which the higher rate band starts drops from £34371 to £32011 which pretty much removes the benefit of the increased personal allowance for higher rate taxpayers.
A similar thing could be done upon introduction of a 10% band.

Perhaps milliband should try talking without sounding like a nasally twonk.0

It won't happen, they won't even commit to it, so its all hot air.
Dennis Healey and his advisors tried for years to find a way to tax these assets and could not find a way that wouldn't cost more to administrate that it gained.
As a policy it has so many holes its unreal. As others have said who decides what the value of your property is currently, they have already stopped the council tax rebanding due to the costs of all the assessments. Then what about the fair number of those who own historic buildings that have passed down the family. A bit chunk of these live alot "poorer" lifestyle than many on benefits and what little they make letting the "public" troop through the house is swallowed up with the huge costs of running the building.
Surely it would just become another area to "avoid" paying tax in. I am not an accountant but a possibility is "selling" the property to a holding company and renting it back?
I have a simpler idea that is easier to run and collect. Create a capital gains type tax to cover ALL sales of ALL types of property over 2 million, never mind if its a primary residence or not and include businesses-the lot. TBH a massive chunk of these higher priced transactions would be in London and even that extra tax would be unlikely to cool the sales down.
TBH a none story really, a case of dear Ed-must try harder.
