Free Electricity!! - Dilemma!

If they do decide to backbill it and you say you've just moved in, they will only charge you for the last few weeks, but then they will pass the rest of the debt to a recovery agency who will get the landlord's name off the land registry and send him/her a bill. So it would come back to haunt you in the end. The best bet is to tell the truth and hope they don't backbill it.0

oh poo.
Thanks tripled. Do you think it's quite likely they'll have the meter readings recorded somwhere then? Surely if they were aware they were supplying electricity that had been unpaid for this long though they'd have cut it off or already chased up the landlord for a bill? Would they be able to tell if it had/hadn't been switched to another supplier in the time it was unpaid?0 -
I doubt they were aware they were supplying, they must have had it on their records as being disconnected for some reason and passed that information onto MPAS. I would guess if it is the same meter as on their records as having been disconnected, they will have the reading history until they thought it was removed so can work forward from there. Of course it could be a different meter has been fitted and never updated, so they may not have readings. It also depends on how it is registered, if it goes through as a new supply then they may not backbill automatically. To be honest you are in a bit of a hope for the best situation, I would give you 50/50 you won't get charged.0
