Urgent - Dealing with a Break In and Surrendered Tenancy

They are changing them into our names, if that makes sense.
So we've left and closed the account, but today we got a new bill in my name + someone I've never met or heard of, until 2016. So I had to call and explain that I don't live there, and that I can't talk to the landlord about it, and they are going to write to me to say the account has closed - again. But they said they can't do anything about the agent switching names all the time. Water until 2016 was over a grand
I see your point, though. I need to pick my battles. I'll try to concentrate on the police report for now, and getting letters to the LL and agent written and sent.
Report this to the police - it could be considered harassment. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
So, the property was professionally cleaned yesterday.
The agent keep rejecting my attempts to return the keys, so Shelter have told me to post them? But also post two seperate first class copies of the letter for proof of postage, which I've done.
Official rent day hasn't passed yet so I'm not too worried. I kept the letter short and to the point, and haven't provided an additional address.
There was a viewing today, and they are coming back to look again this afternoon, so maybe they'll take the house and the rent issue will be over at least? I hope so.
I'm so nervous. I'm going to post the keys special delivery in an hour or so, to the agents head office. Good idea?
I'll put the same letter in again. Surrendering as agreed with x agent on x date, property has been cleaned, keys returned, when will we get deposit back. I've also asked them to keep contact to a minimum, as a solicitor advised that they tend to harass.
I don't think I'd have got through this without you all...I was hoping my Shelter agent would be able to confirm everything with me this morning but she's off sick til Thursday, which isn't much good.0 -
Is it possible to drop the keys at the letting agent branch with a witness? At least then you would know it was done instead of wondering whether they were going to refuse to sign for the special delivery.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

I thought I'd give this an update.
Worried quite a bit that the letters would cause an uprising of fury, as everything was so tense.
Heard from the estate agent yesterday, asking if they could conduct a viewing. Explained we had surrendered tenancy and returned keys.
Received a letter from the landlord today asking us to confirm location of keys, a date to attend final check-out and if the property was cleaned. Probably the politest letter I've had.
So, have they just accepted it? I thought they'd kick up a fuss, but their response does not dispute the surrender in any way. They have got a number of viewings now.
I'm really, really hoping that they've decided to let this go. We heard nothing on the date rent was due, or since. Money has not been mentioned to us at all.
I'm still as jumpy as anything, and any noise petrifies me, but I'm hoping this will be close to the end now.0 -
Any opinions?
I'm so hoping this constitutes acceptance.0 -
It does sound like a change of tack but unfortunately none of us know exactly what is in your LL's mind.0
-
I think the LL may have found another mug to take their property off them IMVHO.
Any news from the Police? Any news on a court date? The smaller the monkey the more it looks like it would kill you at the first given opportunity.

Elle, I think you need to pursue this with the police. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
