Santander 123 Credit cards - 30% discount – not as it seems

From their website:
“Our 123 customers can apply online for an exclusive 30% discount on Santander Options Home Insurance, click here for more information.”

So as I already have insurance with them – I phoned them up.
They were very quick to tell me that I qualified to have the last two months knocked off my policy. Great I thought quick and easy I got my discount.

When I put down the phone I realized – that wasn’t 30% that was 16%. It doesn’t say ‘upto’ 30% it says 30%.
So I phoned them back and asked why it wasn’t 4 months

Them: ”You already have a 15% discount”
Me: “Where does it say that on my schedule?”
Them: “It Doesn’t”
Me: “So how would I know that I had it?”
Them: “you wouldn’t”

Blah Blah about terms and conditions and information that isn’t on their web site and was told tough luck.

So buildings and contents with them for 26 years, no claims and when I ask for a discount that I was sold in a branch they decide not to give it.

Next year I’ll be shopping around!

    The discount only applies for new policies! 2 months free is a better position then you were before you called!

    No – It applies for current ones too. That is what the branch manager and theperson in the department said.

    BUT it does not apply if they have already given you adiscount (which you won’t know). It could have been worse I ‘could have’ previously been on a 30% discount – in which case I would not have got anything!

    In fact I should be annoyed that I didn’t have the full discount amount (which is 30% apparently!) . You would have thought a 20+ year customer would be on the maximum discount available. Clearly I did notargue hard enough every year at renewal!
  • Their complaints department just phoned me. They agreed it was misleading in the end and gave me the 30%. So it was worth complaining to them!
