No you siad you are allowed 20 mins if you work more than 6 hours, not that the scene you were setting was 9am to 3pm as you did mention lunch at 11pm too so wasn't too sure what you meant.paddedjohn wrote: »because as i have already said, in my scenario i was saying that the shift was from 9am-3pmWe’ve had to remove your signature. And, of course, if you had said 9 am to 3 pm, you would have pointed out that there was no statutory entitlement to a break at all for that shift.0 -
Is this not like holidays - in that they can tell you to go whenever they like? Apart from the obvious, such as if you start at 9, they can't tell you to go at 9:05am.
I only get a half hour for my dinner. When people are finishing early i have to take mine earlier than usual, (usual being 1:00pm-1:30pm ish & earlier being anything from 11:30am-12:30pm).0 -
Lancimus (OP) - We are talking office based work here? I can't imagine retail or factory would allow people to set their own lunches or work through them - that's usually only an office 'perk'. And what are your start/finish times? (For example my workplace starts at 8 not 9am).
If its office work then its very possible the office has an effective system of working around 'core hours' of everyone being available, say 8 -11.30 and 2 to 4 (or 9 to 11.30 and 2 to 5 even). Most offices do restrict when lunch can usually be taken so that people know that if they need something done people will be available at certain times (barring meetings/tea & bathroom breaks). It can be (at least seen as) disruptive to have people not around during the 'core' times of the day.0 -
I'm so glad I work in a leisure industry job where all the hours I do feel like I'm on a break lol. Good job really, I've done 16 hours on my own without a break, and apart from feeling like a long day, I don't feel like I need a break.0

I would love a break in my day, but in my line of work they aren't obligatory
Op. many noons ago I worked for one of the big supermarkets and lunches started 11.30 and finished 2.30. Obviously managers tried to put you on the lunch time that best suited your start and finish time, but this wasn't always possible. I remember on Saturdays in particular I was always on early lunch as every one had to cover the checkout staff lunches without checkouts closing
Basically your boss can dictate when you go to lunch . However if you need to change the time for an appointment it would be a pretty poor boss who couldn't accommodate your needs0
