Carpet repair

I have a burn mark on a carpet, about 1" wide. I have offcuts of the same carpet, and I wondered about making a patch. Is this likely to work? I want it to be invisible unless you look close.
The plan would be to cut out a small piece with a Stanley knife, cut an identical piece of new carpet, then use carpet tape to stick down the new piece, and brush the join to blend. The carpet is a pale beige heather twist.
My concern is that I have a join in the hall which is very obvious. It looks like the carpet is not exactly level i.e. the fibres are not all cut to the same length over the entire surface, so the two sides of the join are not flush.
If I do this, I will cut out a small piece in a cupboard, and then patch that, and see if it works. A poor patch in a cupboard is no big deal, it won't be seen.

Easy enough to do,just make sure you cut the patch out from the back in both cases.cut from the front will give you uneven wool heights and it's easier to follow the weave of the carpet from the back. I'm afraid I'm old school and still sew any joins/seams but any of the hot melt tapes will do the job.Bonne chance.0

Thanks. If I cut the damaged piece out from the front will that cause problems as you suggest? I have some double sided carpet adhesive.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0
