I'm getting a new Sky+ box and I'm wondering if I can copy what's in my old one to play from my laptop?
I don't really want to open up the new box, so just wondered if the old stuff can be copied to my laptop then maybe played via HDMI?
Any ideas please?

Not really.
Unless you have a DVD recorder with SCART/component input and play them on the sky+ while recording a DVD.
Most likely its far easier to find and download them.0 -
It can be done, if you take both Sky boxes apart and use your computer to copy the stuff. How much do you want it?!0

You can remove the hard disks from both machines and use ExPVR to copy the programmes from the old disk to the new disk. This version of ExPVR is free.
It is quite easy to do, although the hard disk in the new Sky+ boxes is buried inside and you need to be confident enough to dismantle the box. I’ve done it successfully a few times. Instructions are here.
Alternatively you can also use the paid for version of ExPVR (£10 I think) to copy unencrypted programmes to your laptop and play them with VLC or similar video players. BBC, ITV and C4 programmes are usually unencrypted. Most other channels are encrypted and there is no point copying them as they will only play on a Sky+ box.0
